A nation is not its borders, its institutions, or its statistics. A nation is, finally, its people — their character, their capability, their sense of responsibility to one another. No country rises higher than the individuals who compose it, and none is rebuilt except by rebuilding them. That single conviction — the nation is rebuilt by rebuilding its individuals — is the whole of ARISE.
ARISE is an initiative of the Rebuild India Foundation — a citizen-driven effort to strengthen the country by developing its people, one human being at a time. Rebuild India already acts on this conviction through institutions built to form capable, grounded people from their earliest years: a community school and a medical academy in operation today, with a leadership academy and a residential gurukula to follow.
ARISE carries the same idea to a different and enormous population — the millions of young people already inside the country’s colleges, full of talent and waiting for someone to take their development seriously. Its method is the one Rebuild India has always held to: Learn. Serve. Earn. Develop the person first; let opportunity follow.
The Founder-Custodian
ARISE was conceived and designed by Dr Varun Murthy, who holds it in trust as its Founder-Custodian. A physician by training and an educator by calling, Dr Murthy serves as Secretary of the Rebuild India Foundation and Director of Noble International School, and has spent years walking into school after school — steadying students before their biggest examinations, and building the vocational and youth-service work from which ARISE grew.
Through Rotary and Rebuild India alike, his work has centred on one thing: developing young people into capable, confident, service-minded human beings. ARISE is the fullest expression of that work — a movement he chose to design fully on paper, with its charter, safeguards and structure settled, before it asked a single young person to join.
