ARISE · The Movement · About

A foundation, a school, and a movement.

ARISE did not begin as an idea about young people. It began as a free school in a village outside Bengaluru, and the discovery that if you form a child completely, the whole neighbourhood changes with them.

01 The parent body

The Rebuild India Foundation.

A nation is rebuilt by rebuilding its people, one person at a time.

The Foundation is built on a single conviction, inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s call and turned into practical work: that individual transformation is the true foundation of national development. Vyaktinirmaan se Rashtranirmaan.

Pillar one

Individual development

Forming people completely — across five dimensions and four competencies. This is the pillar ARISE carries.

Pillar two

Institutional development

Free, community-transforming schooling, and the building of institutions that keep working after the founders have gone.

Pillar three

National development

Service coordinated so that local action adds up — a neighbourhood at a time, until it is a country.

The Rebuild India ecosystem — four things, one mission

The Movement — ARISE, the Association to Rebuild India through Service and Entrepreneurship.

The Foundation is the sole party to every centre-hosting agreement of the movement and the sole holder of every liability under it. It is also the only place the movement’s money sits. A club holds and spends nothing.

02 The proof

NIS — the school that came first.

Noble International School is the free school of the Rebuild India Foundation. It has formed children on the same five-dimension model for years, and transformed its community in the doing.

What the school proved is the thing ARISE now distributes. Not that free education is possible — that was never in doubt. That a child formed completely — in body, mind, feeling, relationship and inner life, and not only in marks — changes what a family expects of itself, and then what a village expects of itself.

Principals, parents and funders are warmly invited to come and see it running. It is easier to believe once you have stood in it.

03 The Founder

Dr Varun Murthy.

Founder-Custodian of ARISE.

A physician, educationist, author and speaker, who describes his life’s mission as diagnosing and treating India’s education system.

He is a practising doctor, and it shows in how the movement is built: find the cause rather than the symptom, write the treatment down, and hold to it when it is inconvenient. Around the conviction that rebuilding the person rebuilds India, he founded the Rebuild India Foundation, built its free school, and wrote Arjuna to You — a reading of the Bhagavad Gita for young Indians.

He holds the instruments of ARISE in trust as its Founder-Custodian, until the movement’s own elected leadership is in place. That is a working title rather than an honorific: someone has to answer for the movement while its associates are still climbing towards the offices that will one day answer for it themselves.

04 The terms, in the open

Open at the door, and permanent once you are through it.

Two things decide what a movement becomes: whom it lets in, and what it can take away from them afterwards. ARISE answers both in writing, and the answers do not move.

Coming in

Admission by qualification alone

You apply, you complete the two courses, and you are an associate. There is no selection, no interview, no shortlist and no testimonial. Any Indian aged eighteen and above may walk in, and the membership fee is nil by rule, permanently.

Staying

What can never be taken

Once you are an associate, you stay one. Membership is irrevocable, and nothing earned is ever revoked — no point, no Level, no Star, no Honour. What may be withdrawn, for serious cause and by fair process, is access. Permanent removal survives for the three gravest causes alone.

The rest of the shape — clubs, centres, leadership, money and the calendar

The clubs. Five: Empowerment, Community, Professionals, Leadership and RITE. Twenty-five associates constitute a club, fifty is the target, and clubs are founded rolling, all year round.

The centres. Every club runs at least one Nurture Centre, and may run more. The Foundation is the sole party and sole liability-holder to every centre-hosting agreement, and the Centre Mentor — a screened professional who is not an associate — is the Youth Protection Officer for the centre.

The leadership. All associates elect the President by secret ballot, from a field of three produced by merit. No board elects its own President.

The money. Clubs hold and spend nothing; all money sits in the Foundation’s central custody, receipted and audited; charitable money funds the clubs, their centres and centre activities; and celebrations are self-paid, expressly.

The calendar. One national gathering — the Rebuild India National Convention of 12 January 2027 — and no deadline to work back from.

What governs ARISE

05 What ARISE is

Rooted, and open to all.

ARISE is the human heart of the Foundation’s mission — apolitical, non-sectarian, and open to every Indian aged eighteen and above, whoever they are and whatever they believe.

Apolitical

No party politics, at any level, in any club. The movement takes no side and lends its name to none.

Non-sectarian

No sectarian preference, and no person excluded on the ground of belief. Where the movement speaks of the spiritual it means inner growth — meaning, values and purpose — and never the practice of any religion.

Rooted, without apology

Civilisational in soul and universal in heart: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world is one family; Ekam Sat Viprā Bahudhā Vadanti, truth is one and the wise call it by many names; Sarva Dharma Samabhāva, equal respect for all paths.

Children take part in ARISE in one way only — as students of a Nurture Centre. Every associate is eighteen or above, expressly and without exception, because a centre is a room with children in it and the movement does not blur that line.

06 Where we are
